The Chicks are Here!

In All by Stephen Kurkinen

So the other day a man pulled up to our house in his station wagon, unannounced, with one hand on the steering wheel and the other grasping his bullhorn. “Chicks! get your chicks!” or something along those lines, came blaring out of his rolled-down driver’s side window. He was speaking in Hakka, a local Chinese dialect that I don’t understand.

Anyway, I remembered this guy from the past. We’ve done deals with him before. Because this is the guy that drives around the Miaoli Taiwan countryside selling chicks out of the back of his station wagon.

In Taiwan, that’s how we roll.

In the video above, I give our reason for being enticed to buy chicks from this guy, on a random day, with no prior preparation for their arrival. And see up-close how a recent tyhpoon caused havoc on my chicken-raising operations.
